In 1999, a young American left his bicycle behind and walked into the vast Great Sandy Desert in remote northern Australia. He was a firefighter from Alaska, someone who seemed to have everything to live for. Why did he risk everything to venture into the wilderness alone? And how do you find someone who doesn't want to be found? In 2022, host Erin Parke became obsessed with the story of Robert Bogucki, a saga that culminated in a media frenzy and made everyone involved reflect on life, death, and who we are when everything that is easy is taken away. The story spans three decades, two continents, and an eccentric cast of characters. From bloodhounds with quirky flair to a larger-than-life, cigar-smoking American named Gunslinger, the search for the missing man ultimately became a spectacle in its own right.
