2023 kreeg Jon Holmes de diagnose kanker — iets wat hem nogal verraste, omdat hij eerlijk gezegd veel te druk was voor zulke onzin. Na een vreemd, intens, onverwacht en absurd jaar realiseerde hij zich dat mannen er meestal niet openlijk over praten hoe ongemakkelijk en soms ronduit vernederend het is om met kanker om te gaan. Daarom besloot hij dat wél te doen, samen met andere mannen die hetzelfde hebben meegemaakt. Zo ontstond — onvermijdelijk — zijn nieuwe, openhartige podcast. In de reeks wordt Jon vergezeld door onder anderen de comedians Stephen Fry, Mark Steel, Richard Herring, Matt Forde en Eric Idle, acteurs Colin McFarlane en Ben Richards, rockster en The Alarm-frontman Mike Peters, en journalisten Jeremy Langmead, Nick Owen en Jeremy Bowen. Samen maken ze kanker bespreekbaar in rauwe, eerlijke, moeilijke, vaak absurde en — ja — ook humoristische details: van rectale onderzoeken tot bloedtesten, biopsieën, operaties, katheters, stoma’s, sondevoeding, penispompen (echt waar) en incontinentiemateriaal. Jon wil met deze gesprekken het taboe rond kanker doorbreken.
