Hunting the Suicide Salesman
Hosted by CBC
Following the critically acclaimed Hunting Warhead, host Daemon Fairless takes you into another dark corner of the internet in the second season: the online world where people help each other end their lives. When people around the world began dying several years ago after using a little-known substance, police agencies initially did not realize that many of those deaths were connected. Thanks to the persistence of surviving relatives and investigative journalists, the pieces of the puzzle were put together bit by bit. Their search led first to an online suicide forum and eventually to a Canadian seller: Kenneth Law. According to the police, he shipped more than 1,200 packages to 41 countries and could be linked to more than 145 deaths worldwide. But this story is about much more than just one man. It explores why desperate people turn to hidden online communities when they cannot find help or understanding in the real world. At the same time, the podcast takes an incisive look at a painful social taboo that we prefer not to talk about.
