In the podcast De Koningswens, Anne-Sophie van den Toren and Rianne van der Linden explore the world behind the phenomenon of 'gender disappointment.' Feelings of sadness about a baby's gender are not new, but what is new are the possibilities of embryo selection to actually choose a boy or a girl. The menu includes even more options, such as selecting for eye color. The idea for the podcast arose when the creators heard that midwives were seeing pregnant women terminate pregnancies due to the child's gender. This series investigates whether this is actually happening and what lies behind it. These developments raise the question: can we still deal with things not going as planned in life? And how much do we actually want to determine for our children? Is your child a gift for which you are grateful regardless?
